My account of the net curtain thieves
by andy on Jun.01, 2009, under Blog
Had gone to bed (having difficulty sleeping due to neck pain and heat) heard voices outside (my bedroom window was open) Next I hear, “Well I’m gonna have this curtain” Heard something outside, looked outside my window to see someone running away from the front of my house and down the road.
I looked down the street from the front door and saw them stop by slow near the end of road, ran upstairs stuck some shorts t-shirt and shoes on and pegged it after them.
I was furious. I don’t like the idea that someone could be so insensitive and thoughtless that they would think it would be a good idea.
Saw one guy lying on his back with the net on the floor beside him. Screamed at him “OI! Who the F$%K do you think you are ripping the curtain from my house” followed by some more expletives. He didn’t take to me having a go at him like this and fronted up to me.
Obviously I wasn’t really up for a fight having been in bed the previous couple of hours, but the cursing persisted between us with him threatening to throw me in the bushes and generally making out that he was bigger than he was (about 5’8″ I reckon) and that his mates were right behind him (about 100meters away, I could just make out the flash from a camera phone in the distance).
Eventually without a punch thrown he calmed down and tried to explain how he’d had a really bad day, offered to walk me back with me to explain (I wasn’t having that). We got ourselves into the light from the street light so I could see his face and be able to recognise him if I ever saw him again. And him me, offering as he offered to buy me a pint and pay back for anything I deemed he owed.
Oddly, he began to calm down after I’d pointed out I was a resident and work in the morning, almost as if he assumed student houses were probably fair game! I should point out at this point, that this guy appeared to be local to the area, and not a student.
Welcome to my home on the web. I'll bog occasionally, but most of the time you'll just see an automated "LifeStream", feeds from my other online activities.

Andy, Why have you got net curtains?
Glad to see the Purple Rhino still stomping the valley!
