Film Review

The Dark Knight came out last week, and thanks to Orange Wednesday’s and Vouchers from Vue Cinema,it is once again cheaper to go to Cardiff to watch a good film in a proper cinema rather then the (in my opinion) crappy and over crowded, local Showcase cinema.
Christian Bale once more don’s the outfit and puts on a gruff voice in a role that certainly suits him, more so then any previous portrayor of this tortured soul, even Keaton. You really get a sense that Bale felt the part, that he was more comfortable as Batman then Wayne.
Although Heath Ledger does a sterling job as the Joker, I wouldn’t put it down as an oscar award winning performance. And if he wins an Oscar just because he killed himself then I think its sending the wrong signal. I don’t deny that one day he might well of won an oscar, but to to be awarded one out for some sentimental reasons even though he stupidly OD’d is wrong. Don’t get me wrong though, Heath Ledger did do a marvelous job portraying a psychotic lunatic, on par with Nicholson.
The film is a worthy one for anyone to go see, Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two Face and Michael Caine as Alfred are both superb. The story goes on for a while, but at no point did I think it was too long, altough I did think it could have ended 30 mins earlier, I’m really glad it didn’t.
The fact that nothing in the film was overdone, as in the last (post Keaton) attempt to give us the Batman story on the big screen, and that they haven’t blatantly marketed it to the hilt or doctored the story to pull in toy or other merchandise revenue, just makes it so much better.
Dark Knight really outshines Begins, and I urge you to see it. The effects are great, the music is great, the acting is awesome. Its going to be tough to beat this.
Welcome to my home on the web. I'll bog occasionally, but most of the time you'll just see an automated "LifeStream", feeds from my other online activities.

Thanks for that… a little strong language I had to edit a bit. But I believe everyone’s opinion should be heard.
He may have been considered for awards, but so have many people in the past that never make it to the short list. He should have got an award for Brokeback Mountain, but never did. Whose to say the Hollywood folks that run the Oscar parade aren’t feeling a little guilty for their previous oversight.
